If the idea of a minivan makes you shudder, Nissan’s seven passenger Pathfinder might be just your family-hauler of choice.

Being the highest trim level Nissan offers on the 2015 Pathfinder, our test vehicle came equipped with only a few extra options. The Splash guards ($160), roof rail cross bars ($355), rear bumper protector ($205), and carpeted floor mats ($210) might need to be included as standard on future model years in order to stay competitive within our mid-size utility segment.
- Compliant ride quality
- Even though this is a larger vehicle than the Nissan Murano, it feels just as fast, despite utilizing the same engine
- The Platinum trim level offers almost everything you could ever ask for, except a kitchen sink (a 120-volt power outlet is included for second row passengers, however)
- A tilting/sliding sunroof for front passengers, and a larger two row panoramic sunroof for rear passengers makes the cabin feel airy
- The use of contrast stitching in the leather seating surface, along with satin-trimmed interior finishes tease the senses of a near-premium offering
- Seating for seven is functional, with the second row able to move almost completely out of the way for passengers wishing to egress/ingress the third row in an undramatic manner
- Steering can feel neutral-to-numb at times, depending on rate of speed
- This vehicle was redesigned for the 2013 model year and it is already looking aged compared to the recently updated 2015 Nissan Murano
- The infotainment touch screen works the same as in the newer Murano, however the center stack has button overload — where at least 20 buttons can be counted — just to control the navigation and system settings
- Radar-assisted cruise control and lane departure assistance are not offered on this model
- A large blind spot in the D-pillar makes the Around View Monitor (360-degree cameras) system almost a must on lower trim levels
In regards to value retention, the Pathfinder sits in 17th place (out of 21) within the three-year-old mid-size utility segment by holding 50.7% of its value in 2015. The Rogue underperforms the segment value retention average score of 55% for 2015.
